Edgar Canet
“It’s been many years since we’ve had a Spanish champion in the Dakar Rally on motorcycles. That’s who I want to be. Following in the footsteps of Nani Roma and Marc Coma, among many other role models who have been an inspiration in this event at the international level, my dream is to one day lift the Touareg trophy. I’m 19 years old, and I will give it my all. There will be no shortage of commitment, attitude, integrity, effort, and hard work. It doesn’t put pressure on me to hear people say that I am the future of Spain in the Dakar. I like it. I’m very happy with how things went in the Rallye du Maroc, but in the 2025 Dakar, the number one goal must be to finish and to learn. I don’t think now is the time to try to win it all, but rather to gain experience and prepare so that in a few years, I have all the tools and everything aligned to fight for the Dakar victory.”
“Nani Roma has always helped me. I know him because we are from the same area, and I’ve always trained with his son. When I was very young, about 10 years old, Nani saw me training one day and said, ‘I’d like to help you.’ That’s why I’ve always been surrounded by people from the world of rally raid. Nani is a role model, someone who gives me a lot of advice and tells me what’s right, but more importantly, what’s wrong, and that’s very important.”
About me
His mentor and role model is none other than Nani Roma, the Dakar champion in both cars and motorbikes. Nani first saw Edgar ride at the age of 10 and was immediately impressed by his speed and technique. Determined to help him grow, Nani guided Edgar first in motocross and later in rally raids. Edgar’s talent was evident early on, as he became Spanish Motocross Champion in the 85cc category at the age of 14 and went on to compete in both the national and European championships in the 125cc class. Although he had the opportunity to continue in motocross with a realistic chance of reaching the world championship, Edgar chose to shift his focus to rally raids and pursue his ultimate dream: the Dakar.
Edgar grew up surrounded by wheels and the smell of petrol in his grandfather’s motorbike workshop, where his passion was sparked by watching his older brother ride. While his brother eventually chose football, Edgar, who played for La Garriga’s team as a child, decided at the age of 7 to follow his heart and dedicate himself to motorbikes. His goals are crystal clear: to become an official factory rider and, in the coming years, to win the Dakar Rally.
